Oh Canada!

The ‘Oh Canada’ series of institutional buildings is painted ‘en plein air’ with oil and palette knives.  Following Tossounians’ life of independent galleries and runs for office while having to deal with the law for being an activist and willing to take a stand. It embodies both the free activist nature in the looseness of the lines and quest for justice resembled by the buildings which encompass the rules and regulations of being a Canadian. We are founded on laws and the people have the rights to change these laws through the courts and legislature determining the rules of being a Canadian.
‘Peace Tower’ was acquired in late 2016 by Senator Kim Pate which hangs in her office on Parliament Hill.

All of these oil paintings have been painted live on spot with a palette knife on canvas at my easel.

I went back to the same spot at the gazebo in the park to paint the same scenery I painted in 2003. The first painting was stolen along with most of my earlier collection out of my first gallery which was located on St. Paul Street downtown St. Catharines.

“James Street” St. Catharines
Oil on canvas

I painted this on Christmas day 2006. At that time, I had an office in the St. Catharines Art Association which is featured in this painting. My little red car parked out front.
